Amazon Expands Same-Day Delivery Service

Amazon Expands Same-Day Delivery Service

With startups such as Uber, Postmates, Deliv, eBay Now and Lyft offering customers the ability to order and have items delivered within hours, Amazon has been forced to respond.

Late last week, the e-commerce giant announced that it will be expanding their same-day delivery service to two new markets, San Diego and Tampa Bay. The announcement also revealed that the company will be providing free delivery for orders over $35.

Besides the two new locations, Amazon also offers same-day delivery in several cities around the country, including New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco (and the Bay area, including Oakland), Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.

The move to free same-day delivery for orders over $35 is certainly a reason for customers to rejoice as previously the cost of the service was $5.99 for Amazon Prime members and $8.99 plus $0.99 per unit for non-members.

To take advantage of same-day delivery, customers must place their order by noon of that day. This feature can be used any day of the week within orders typically arriving by 9 PM the day of the order.

Ironically enough, same-day delivery is different from Prime Now, which offers delivery of your order within two hours. This program is only in select markets such as: New York City, Miami, Baltimore, Dallas, Atlanta, and Austin. With Prime Now, orders are delivered within two hours for free, or within the hour for $7.99.

At the end of the day this move is a win win for customers!
