Life is Strange

Game Review: Life Is Strange

Life is Strange

Life is Strange is a new video game by developer DONTNOD Entertainment and popular game publisher, Square Enix. What’s different about this new game is that it’s an episodic video game.

If that genre doesn’t sound familiar to you don’t worry because not many people are doing it. Episodic games are released in “episodes” compared to the traditional all inclusive model. The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us pushed the envelope when it came to episodic video games and Life is Strange is filing in right behind them.

The game follows the life of Max Caulfield, a high school student who is an outcast at a prestigious boarding school and is holding in a major secret.

Smells like teen spirit huh!!??

The opening episode introduces Max to the gamer and you quickly find out her big secret. SPOILER ALERT! Close your eyes if you don’t want to know the secret.

Max can rewind time which comes in handy as you traverse the challenges that she faces every day in high school.

While the decisions you make don’t have immediate impacts, it will be interesting to see how your moves effect the storyline in future episodes.

The biggest fault of this game is the voice acting, it needs to be greatly improved. Thankfully the storyline is so compelling that you can overlook the voices.

Episode 2 is set to be released on March 24, 2015.
