Google Cardboard – A chance for anyone to experience VR
Technology in virtual reality has been a very much talked about subject in the tech realm, and Oculus Rift was the face of it. You are able to put on a headset/goggles-type of creation and view anything online and feel like you are there. You could choose to be at a resort in Cancun sipping on a margarita, or bring back some childhood memories and witness a Britney Spears concert onstage.
So who wouldn’t want to be able to experience something so real and surreal at the same time? To be able to feel almost a presence of your favorite celebrity or activist from the sixties you looked up to, and make someone else’s world become yours, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
But does everyone who hope for an opportunity as unique and futuristic as this be able to afford such an experience? Products like Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus will reach up to nearly $1,000. There are some cheaper options like Samsung’s Gear VR for selected Samsung phones for a few hundred dollars, but this would still limit this opportunity to a select group making a certain income.
This is where Google Cardboard comes and saves the day. The app is free and can be downloaded on Android or iOS, with the cardboard prices ranging from around $20-$90. So go and get your dose of VR!
